Elmington Community Gardens' principle project is always the gardening we undertake within the community.  We feel it is here we can make the greatest positive impact on the lives of the residents of our estate.  Our main aims are to:

  • improve air quality
  • increase biodiversity
  • build community interaction
  • enhance estate aesthetics
  • provide free fruit and veg to residents
  • maintain wildlife gardens and urban woodlands

We attempt to achieve these goals through three main community gardening areas - Elmington Estate; Wildlife Triangle and Elmington Community Allotments.  We operate weekly community gardening sessions throughout Spring, Summer and early Autumn - generally, there are sessions held on weekdays; evenings and weekends (weather permitting) to allow as many people as possible find a session that suits their schedule.  To discover the best options for you, join the 'Greener Elmington' WhatsApp group for notice of session days and times or check out our events calendar.
Community gardening sessions vary dependent on the specific needs of the particular area we are working on.  But, overall tasks will invariably be a combination of weeding; pruning; mulching; watering; planting or harvesting.  All tools are provided, including adapted tools for those with disabilities.  We will always have disposable gloves available, but if you have your own gardening gloves we would recommend you bring them along with you.  If you don't feel up to gardening, we appreciate moral support so feel free to drop by and say hi.
