Through re-wilding and 'greening' projects in disregarded areas of the Elmington Estate, Camberwell, South London, Elmington Community Gardens aims to increase biodiversity; improve air quality and boost resident morale.
We specifically target locations which have been prone to fly-tipping and regenerate them into places our community can feel proud of. A varied mix of horticulture can be found around the estate in order to attract a diverse collection of wildlife whilst also offering free food to the community to harvest as they wish.
Our allotments and community gardening projects provide relief from loneliness for residents who may otherwise feel isolated. A multicultural, inter-generational blend of gardeners of all abilities work together to share and learn skills to benefit their community as well as themselves.
With Brunswick Park Primary School at the heart of our estate, air quality is of significant importance. With this in mind, great effort has been made to increase planting along the children's commute routes. Weekly community gardening sessions take place, with pupils from the school carrying out general tasks in order to teach them about the environment and the importance of being an active member of society.
